Sail into Fall

I keep hearing that summer is coming to an end, but I'm not quite ready to let go yet. Being on the water is the epitome of summer to me, so I thought it would be appropriate to share a few of the sailing photos I got while in Austria this summer.

Austria is probably the most beautiful country I've ever visited. They have a unique mix of Bavarian and Austrian architecture that keeps things interesting and different. Not to mention the views of the surrounding Alps never cease to amaze me. 

After visiting St. Wolfgangsee, I have my mind made up that W and I will be returning for our 10 year anniversary. This is happening.

Our time in Munich came to an end all too quickly, but I definitely feel like I got a great feel for the beautiful city. I have to say of everything we did there, my favorites were our Sunday spent at Tegernsee lake, about an hour outside of Munich, and our afternoon lunch and wandering around the Viktualienmarkt. 

There's a lot to be said for taking a whole day to sit lakeside  (a breath taking lakeside) in the midst of a nonstop sight seeing adventure to just breath, rest your footsies, and take it all in. I could have stayed a week just doing that. But we did manage to get our butts in gear, and my favorite thing in the city was by far the Viktualienmarkt. In every direction there are different vendors offering every kind of home grown, pickled, or fresh baked food you can think of. I wanted one of everything, but ended up settling on a panini, 3 huge pickles for 1 euro, freshly squeezed fruit juice, and a bag of green grapes. mmm take me back!

Happenings

WOW. I have been so scatter brained and this summer is flying by like a whirlwind! Things started getting a bit hectic for me when we found out... 

Yep! That's right... our little family is expanding! We feel so thrilled/blessed/nervous/excited/overwhelmed I don't know what to do with myself! 

Since then I've experienced first trimester tribulations, re-scheduled our Germany trip (only 3 days away now!!), celebrated holidays and birthdays, and started brainstorming nursery ideas (eeek!).  

Now that I'm finally starting to feel better, I plan on making regular (hopefully) appearances on the blog again and I can't wait to share with you updates from my euro trip and all of the changes happening at our house. 

Like I've mentioned about a million times before, our teeny house is teeny. So I hope y'all follow along as our guest bedroom/my closet becomes a nursery, and our bedroom gets some re-configuring to make it all work. I plan on sharing the good, the bad, the ugly, and 

(praying for good!) final results.

And finally, with this trip coming up in a few days, I have put together a little list of my essentials to pack! I like to stick with layers (Bavarian summer temperatures can be all over the map) and easy to throw on, comfortable dresses.

In my make-believe life, I own all of these items, and everything will be fab, but in my real life, I'm just using this as inspiration and am mostly taking items that have been in my closet for years, but a girl can dream right? 

Bargain Shopping

I have recently been looking all over for a versatile weekender bag that is easy to pack up and go. I wanted something classic to replace an ancient Vera Bradley bag I've been using since my teens. First I came across this Pottery Barn canvas weekender and knew it was exactly what I had been searching for, the price however, not so much. Then yesterday, I came across this similar Nantasket Sachel on Joss and Main for half the price tag of the other one! The dimensions of the Nantasket sachel are actually slightly bigger than the other bag too, so I was sold! Sometimes it pays to shop around.

Visiting Germany

As I mentioned last week, I'm travelling back to Germany in two weeks to visit some family, and to see the sights. 

Two years ago I made a similar trip there with my husband, where we visited Amsterdam and London as well. The first time around, we had never been to Germany, or any of the other countries for that matter, so the short days we had there went by super fast. I am so excited this time to see some familiar sights, and hopefully soak it in a little better.

This trip, we'll be spending two days in Salzburg, and six days in and around Munich. I've got sight seeing, antiquing, and flea markets on the brain!

The Hills Are Alive in Salzburg, Austria

I don't think I've mentioned up to this point that I've planned an impromptu trip back to Germany... in June! It all has happened so quickly, but in short, my cousin that lives in Munich is pretty positive she will be moving back stateside at the end of this year. As soon as we heard the news, my mom (who has been saying she wanted to go forever) asked me if I wanted to go with her to visit this summer, being that it may might her last chance to go before we lose our resident tour guide:) 

Well did I even have to think about it? Well of course not! Count me in!

So naturally, we were thinking while we are there, is there anywhere else close enough that we would like to visit? And that's when we decided on a 3 day excursion to Salzburg, Austria.

Being that The Sound Of Music is one of my all time favorite movies, which was filmed in Salzburg, naturally I am beside myself with excitement!

We plan on staying in the historic city center (more on that later) and seeing all of the major sites like the birthplace of Mozart and his home, Mirabell Palace and gardens, and St. Peter's Monastery. There are even quite a few Sound of Music tours out there that I fully intend on geeking it out at. 

Among all of those places, I also just look forward to just admiring the old city itself, in all of it's beauty with Austrian architecture set against the back drop of the Alps.

The dates are creeping up on me, so if you've ever been and have any must - do suggestions, please share!

Girl's Trip : Marco Island

As I mentioned before, last weekend I flew down to Marco Island, Florida for a girls weekend with my best gals from college. We had the absolute most amazing time. Literally, we didn't do anything but sun bathe, drink fancy tropical cocktails, and eat. And maybe a little dancing and bad singing was had too. 

It is exactly what I needed to rejuvenate myself here at home. I feel like I've gotten a new wind and can conquer anything. Let's see how long this lasts, shall we? 

Jet Set : Girls Beach Weekend

This weekend I'm headed down to Marco Island, FL to frolic in the sand with 4 of my best girl friends. I plan on leaving all my worries behind for one weekend and totally embracing the rare occurrence of having us all together in one place, no guys, tons of girl talk, day drinking, sun, sun, and more SUN.

28 Days of things I love : Day 27

traveling. 

W and I have been extremely lucky to be able to take a few little trips, and a couple big ones since we've been married. This is something that we both really wanted to do as much of before we start a family because we know how limited travel can become with little bambinos running around. 

I still have a few places that I would L O V E to visit, but until then I can dream.. 

No 1 on my list would have to be Jachson Hole, Wyoming.

My biggest dilemma there, is deciding whether to visit in summer 



or winter



No. 2 is Banff, Canada
